Tigermen

Tiger-transformation at the Khasi of Northeast India

Duration of the exhibition: May 7th to August 17th 2003

Outside of their everyday lives some people of the Khasi hills of Northeast India lead a life as tigers. Tigermen and tigerspirits from the jungle meet in the forests. The rules in this world appear to be extraordinary, almost surreal. The exhibition tells this story by means of video-stills and conversations of the tigermen. It emerged on the occasion of a reforestation project and brought to light a peculiar connection between holy forests and their corporeal and transcendental inhabitants. A comprehensive publication by the project leader Thomas Kaiser (in German) is available in the Online Shop. Please also notice the presspictures.
